Description: The Parcels Feature Class provides a seamless countywide representation of current tax parcel (real estate property) boundaries. It shows the general shape, position, and adjacency of tax parcels to one another and to other features in the GIS. This layer creates, stores, and maintains a unique property identifier (GPIN) and stores and maintains the traditional taxmapid number issued by the Commissioner of Revenue. Both the GPIN and the taxmapid relate each parcel polygon to it's corresponding record in the county's Computer Aided Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system. The GPIN is also used on many other documents, including deeds, plats, permits, and plans and will relate to records in othe databases. The Parcels layer is a representation of property boundaries. It is not a legal description of property boundaries. Locations and measurements of property boundaries in this layer are approximate and have varying degrees of accuracy, none of which may be used for legal purposes, as governed by Virginia law. Any measurements of position, length, area or shape derived from this layer may be used for general reference, or approximate purposes only, and the accuracy of such measurements should always be considered. To obtain legal descriptions and measurements, please use the legally recorded source document, typically a deed or subdivision plat, which may be found at the county courthouse. For the other restrictions on the use of this data layer, please refer to the use constraints section of this document. The purpose of this data is to provide a geographic representation of the location of existing tax parcel boundaries in New Kent County, Virginia. The parcel polygon layer provides approximate sie, location, and associated information of properties within New Kent County. It should be used for informational purposes only and is not suitable for detailed site planning.
